(Washington, DC) -- President Obama says Trayvon Martin, quote, "could have been me" as a young man. In a surprise appearance in the White House briefing room, Obama cited a history of racial disparity in the American judicial system. He said African-American boys continue to face big challenges and said they are often "painted with a broad brush."
The President praised Trayvon Martin's parents for "incredible grace and dignity" after a jury acquitted George Zimmerman in their son's shooting death. The President said the jury trial was handled properly and professionally.
