One Month Into Hurricane Season, South Floridians Unprepared

Nearly a month into the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season, there's the usual concern that the local population has become apathetic when it comes to the possibility of a storm strike, since it  has been nearly nine years since South Florida experienced a hurricane.

One indication of possible complacency is the reported failure of the state's hurricane supply tax-free week.

Broward Emergency Management Director Miguel Ascarrunz says, at the very least, families should have an evacuation plan and a hurricane supply kit.
